About Us

My middle name, Elise, is short for Elysium - as my father described it "the dwelling place of happy souls". In Greek mythology Elysium can only be found in the afterlife if the gods allow it for souls who have done great deeds, or of great character to rest in paradise and seclusion where they may reside in ecstasy. He gave me a first name that means "one who is like the lord". He named me well, and before making his own trip to Elysium instilled in me the value of "use your powers for good." If I had a penny for every time I heard "use your powers for good" I wouldn't need to operate a business. I was just 17 when he passed but he believed in me with his whole spirit. He was a great teacher, a better friend, and I hope the name would make him proud.

My dad, being of African & indigenous descent, taught me to work twice as hard early on so that I may relax later and showed me how to see the magic in the world along the way. Everything is energy & it is all connected; a lesson I was taught early on and am still learning just how connected it all is. My mother, full-blooded Italian, introduced me to the garden & herbs. She was always so proud of my "green thumb" and encouraged me to plant everywhere, sing to plants, & listen to trees. Old Italian remedies and what some call witchcraft can resemble each other so closely in a lot of aspects, I've never regarded myself a "witch" - but was raised to recognize the powers & energies held in herbs which simply cannot be denied. 

My upbringing, paired with my education in Environmental Science, through some twists and turns eventually brought me to agriculture. And inevitably, to biodynamic agriculture. These practices and what we call permaculture today are in fact ancient. It is through these teachings, practices, education, and experience that I made the decision to "use my powers for good" and facilitate sharing the gifts of herbs. It is only because of capitalism that I have to attach a price.
